Theistic evolution
So, for those of you who heard the Apologetics debate (and those who didn't), what's your opinion on theistic evolution? Is it a valid theory? Are there any theological problems with holding this view? Are there any scientific problems in rejecting this view?

Re: Theistic evolution
I strongly disagree with theoistic evolution. I thought that the team promoting the 6 day literal creation cornered the other group very well. Although both groups did an AMAZING job debating- very entertaining.
I do believe that it is possible that God created it in 6 days 24 hour periods.
On the first day God created Light. He created day and night- dividing a "day" 12 hours to 12 hours.
The second day God created water above the earth and kept some below- created morning, day, eveing, night- divided a day into 6 hours each- like we have today.
The third day he created land in the morning and then made "seed bearing plants" in the eveing- or still in the morning
On the fourth day- not only did God have morning, day, eveing and night but he made years, seasons and days. Then God created the moon and the sun to help determine the seasons- this can be sciencetifically(sp) proven.
Now that God created- land+water+light which = all that plants need to survive. Now God was ready to set up a ecosystem.
Land+water+light+ plants= all that animals need to survive. Then God created water animals in the morning and birds on the fifth day.
Then on the sixth day God created land animals. Then after God made land animals he MADE man in the eveing to look after all that God has made.
That's how I look at the creation story- I believe there was a reason for mentioning "and there was eveing and there was morning" all those times in the Bible.

Re: Theistic evolution
I agree that it is entirely possible for God to have created the world in six days. I also believe it is possible for God to have created the world instantly, or over millions of years. I think the key point is that a literal interpretation is not the only plausible interpretation of Genesis 1; in fact, it is probably not the preferred interpretation. The hermeneutical principle of "interpret the Bible literally where possible" is flawed because it fails to take into account the historical and cultural context, and the literary style of various passages. While I don't believe in theistic evolution (yet), I don't think it is heretical and could be a viable view of creation.
