Revolution or Rebellion?

Should the American Revolution (or the War for Independence) be more rightly called the War of the Rebellious Colonies? Is there political and Biblical justification for the colonies taking up arms against Britain, breaking away from allegiance to the mother country, and forming a new government? I have thoughts but will wait for some response.
